Finally the day has come! Zony Mash Beer Project will officially open their doors Monday, September 23rd. A LOT of hard work went into transforming the defunct Wayward Owl Brewery in the historic Gem Theater to the literal working piece of art that is now Zony Mash Beer Project and the fruits of their labor will soon come to light. The brewery is now decorated with elaborate woodwork, colorful art, and barrels stacked on barrels aging delicious beer. The brewhouse and cellar area were rearranged to transform the old Gem Theater back into an entertainment venue. They plan on hosting live music, comedy shows, movie screenings, etc as another way of reincorporating art into the old theater. They created an upstairs viewing area and event space overlooking the taproom, brewery, and stage that will be available for private parties and functions. Further along down the line they will move the taproom into the adjacent building behind the brewhouse and create an outdoor beer garden on Broad St. Their beers will start off
only available at the taproom, but later on down the line, with the help of the purchase of their own mobile canning line, they plan to later distribute to on and off premise accounts and even can other local breweries' beer for distribution! Homebrewer turned pro, Mitch Grittman will be the man in charge of the brewhouse and will be continuously putting out different beers so there will always be something new on tap. He will specialize in mixed fermentation, barrel aged beers, and Belgian style ales, but will be brewing stuff all across the board to keep patrons thirsty. It will be exciting to see how this art project develops over the coming years and you can be sure that there will be amazing beer flowing the whole time!
